1.2relating to public safety; providing criminal penalties for bribing or corruptly
1.3influencing a juror; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.425; proposing
1.4coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 609.
1.5    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6Section 1. [609.421] BRIBERY OF A JUROR.
1.7Subdivision 1. Offering bribery. Whoever offers, gives, or promises to give, directly
1.8    or indirectly, to a juror in any court in the state, whether impaneled or not, any benefit,
1.9    reward, or consideration, with intent to influence the juror's vote or position on a matter
1.10   before the juror, is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced as provided in subdivision 3.
1.11Subd. 2. Receiving bribery. Whoever, being a juror summoned to any court in the state,
1.12   whether impaneled or not, requests, receives, or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly,
1.13   any benefit, reward, or consideration, with the understanding that in exchange this will
1.14   influence the juror's vote or position on a matter before the juror, is guilty of a felony and
1.15   may be sentenced as provided in subdivision 3.
1.16Subd. 3. Sentence. A person who violates this section may be sentenced to imprisonment
1.17   for not more than ten years or to payment of a fine of not more than $20,000, or both.
1.18EFFECTIVE DATE. This section is effective August 1, 2026, and applies to crimes
1.19   committed on or after that date.

2.1   Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.425, is amended to read:
2.2     609.425 CORRUPTLY INFLUENCING LEGISLATOR OR JUROR.
2.3     Whoever by menace, deception, concealment of facts, or other corrupt means, attempts
2.4 to influence the vote or other performance of duty of any member of the legislature or person
2.5 elected thereto to the legislature or a juror summoned to any court in the state, whether
2.6 impaneled or not, may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than five years or to
2.7 payment of a fine of not more than $10,000, or both.
2.8     EFFECTIVE DATE. This section is effective August 1, 2026, and applies to crimes
2.9 committed on or after that date.
