Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A senate RESOLUTIONTO CONGRATULATE Our Lady Star of the Sea Ladiesguild upon the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary and to commend the Guildfor its many years of dedicated service to the people and the State of SouthCarolina.Whereas, the members ofthe South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Our Lady Star of the SeaLadies Guild at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach asit celebrates this important milestone; andWhereas, Our Lady Starof the Sea Ladies Guild is a valued member of the North Myrtle Beach communitythat does a great deal of good throughout the region; andWhereas, through thefundraising efforts of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Ladies Guild, yearlysupport is provided to over twenty-five charities. The guild focuses donationson support for unborn children through Grand Strand Citizens for Life; rapevictims through the Rape Crisis Center; sufferers of domestic abuse through theFamily Justice Center; single, widowed, or divorced men through A Father'sPlace; and foster children through Julie's Kids; andWhereas, forapproximately forty years, seven days a week, volunteers from the Ladies Guildhave operated a religious shop and book center in the church to fosterspiritual growth in parishioners, visitors, and those of other faiths; andWhereas, the LadiesGuild Prayer Shawl Ministry has provided thousands of handmade hats, scarves,and blankets to men, women, and children in need, as well as lap blankets fornursing homes and the sick, including those suffering from Alzheimer's disease;andWhereas, since 2006,the guild has maintained relationships with local nursing homes. Through visitsthat include craft activities, dance parties, and ongoing correspondence withindividual residents, guild members foster friendships with elder communitymembers who have sometimes been forgotten; andWhereas, the LadiesGuild also supports and honors American military veterans through the Quilts ofValor program, the Veterans Welcome Home program, and by providing handmadecomforters for forty tiny homes for veterans in Myrtle Beach; andWhereas, for the pasttwenty years, the guild has provided three to six one-thousand-dollarscholarships yearly to children in their parish who need financial assistance.These acts of charity are but a sampling of the devoted service that members ofthe guild offer to their community; andWhereas, the members ofthe South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of OurLady Star of the Sea Ladies Guild to serving the people and the State of SouthCarolina. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the Senate:That the members of theSouth Carolina Senate, by this resolution,congratulate Our Lady Star of the Sea Ladies Guild upon the occasion of its fiftiethanniversary and commend the guild for its many years of dedicated service tothe people and the State of South Carolina.Be it further resolvedthat a copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the Our Lady Starof the Sea Catholic Church Ladies Guild and the pastor of the church, ReverendJohn M.
