BLANC AND TURNERA CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONTo designate Wednesday, May 6, 2026, as "Main Street Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol.WHEREAS, since 1984, Louisiana Main Street has helped communities revitalizetheir historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts-celebrating communitycharacter and generating impressive economic returns; andWHEREAS, Louisiana Main Street has produced a strong return on investment, withevery one dollar invested into the state program generating $67 of new investment back intodowntowns and commercial corridors in Fiscal Year 2024-2025; andWHEREAS, Louisiana's thirty-eight designated communities have generatedimpressive results over the last 42 years, logging 17,491 new jobs, 4,086 new businesses,$606 million in private investments, $438 million in public investments, and 1.3 millionvolunteer hours; andWHEREAS, Louisiana Main Street leads a statewide network of designatedcommunities: Abbeville, Bastrop, Broussard, Columbia, Crowley, Denham Springs,DeRidder, Donaldsonville, Eunice, Franklin, Hammond, Homer, Houma, Kenner, Leesville,Minden, Monroe, Morgan City, Natchitoches, New Iberia, New Roads, Opelousas,Plaquemine, Ponchatoula, Ruston, Slidell, Springhill, St. Francisville, St. Martinville,Thibodaux, West Monroe, Winnfield, and Winnsboro, and districts in New Orleansincluding Broad Street, Lower Ninth Ward, North Rampart Street, O. C. Haley Boulevard,and Old Algiers; andWHEREAS, Louisiana Main Street also works with communities on the pathway topotential designation, and currently Jonesville and Washington are "Lagniappe"communities; andWHEREAS, Louisiana Main Street's communities are also part of a national networkof over twelve hundred Main Street communities, led by Main Street America; andPage 1 of 2SCR NO. 52 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, the Main Street program is a proven model for economic development;when downtown and neighborhood commercial districts grow, the whole community grows;andWHEREAS, today Main Street leaders from communities of all corners of Louisianaare gathering at the Louisiana State Capitol to celebrate.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does herebydesignate Wednesday, May 6, 2026, as Main Street Day at the Louisiana State Capitol anddoes hereby commend Louisiana Main Street and its thirty-eight designated communitiesfor their outstanding downtown revitalization efforts throughout the state.BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to theassistant secretary of the office of cultural development in the Department of Culture,Recreation, and Tourism and the lieutenant governor of Louisiana.PRESIDENT OF THE SENATESPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPage 2 of 2
