scr55/enrolled.txt2026 Regular Session ENROLLEDSENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 55BY SENATOR CONNICK AND REPRESENTATIVES BRAUD, ECHOLS, FREEMAN,LACOMBE AND WYBLEA CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONTo designate the Peggy Martin Rose as the official state rose.WHEREAS, on April 9, 2026, the Plaquemines Parish Council officially designatedthe Peggy Martin Rose as the official state rose of Plaquemines Parish, recognizing itshistorical significance and powerful symbolism of resilience, endurance, and renewal; andWHEREAS, the Peggy Martin Rose is deeply rooted in the parish's history beginningwith its cultivation by longtime resident Peggy Martin; andWHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina brought catastrophic flooding to Plaquemines Parishin 2005, submerging homes and landscapes under as much as thirty feet of water; andWHEREAS, while much was lost, one rose growing along Peggy Martin's tractorshed miraculously survived more than two weeks underwater, and this extraordinary survivaltransformed the rose into a symbol of hope and perseverance for the people of PlaqueminesParish and the Gulf Coast; andWHEREAS, the Peggy Martin Rose was named to honor its caretaker and has sincebeen shared across the country, helping to raise funds for the restoration of historic gardens;andWHEREAS, horticultural experts have recognized the Peggy Martin Rose as anexceptional plant due to its ability to withstand flooding, poor soil, and harsh environmentalconditions, which are the very qualities that also reflect the strength and spirit ofLouisianians.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does herebydesignate the Peggy Martin Rose as the official state rose.PRESIDENT OF THE SENATESPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPage 1 of 1
