Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A house RESOLUTIONTo recognize June 15-21, 2026, as "Waste andRecycling Workers Week" in South Carolina.Whereas, South Carolinaprides itself on its environmental stewardship efforts to protect its land,water, and air for the residents and businesses of this State; andWhereas, the localgovernments and private sector companies that provide collection, hauling,processing, and disposal services go largely unnoticed throughout the year; andWhereas, South Carolinaproduces more than five million tons of waste each year. This waste must becollected, hauled, processed, or disposed of in some way by theseorganizations; andWhereas, the work thatis done to manage the state's waste materials is done by and large by the menand women who collect these materials from residential, commercial,institutional, and industrial sectors; andWhereas, the waste andrecycling industry employs thousands of people and has a multibillion-dollareconomic impact on our state's economy every year; andWhereas, localgovernments and private entities provide safe and efficient solid waste andrecycling systems that protect our environment for future generations; andWhereas, sanitationprofessionals begin work early each day and continue until their work iscompleted, persisting in all kinds of weather: heat, cold, rain, humidity, andeven ice and snow; andWhereas, their jobs arephysically demanding, requiring speed, strength, and stamina to serve thousandsof customers every day and every week; andWhereas, solid wasteand recycling collectors are frequently among the unsung heroes of anyorganization; andWhereas, the members ofthe South Carolina House recognize the work that solid waste and recyclingworkers do on a day in and day out basis to keep South Carolina communitiessanitary and to make sure that our homes and neighborhoods are livable. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, recognize June 15-21, 2026, as "Waste and Recycling WorkersWeek" in honor of solid waste and recycling collectors' hard work anddependability as they provide an invaluable service to communities across SouthCarolina.Be it further resolvedthat a copy of this resolution be presented to the Solid Waste Association ofNorth America SC Palmetto Chapter.----XX----This web page was last updated on April 29, 2026 at 11:28 AM
