Wiater and his wife, Sergeant at Arms Administrative Assistant Donna Wiater, fortheir dedicated State public service and extending future best wishesWhereas, Mike Wiater was born in Springfield, Massachusetts; attended the publicschools in nearby Chicopee, Massachusetts; and, in 1973, he entered the U.S. Army,serving in the 1st Infantry Division prior to his 1976 honorable discharge, andWhereas, following military service, Mike Wiater pursued higher educationopportunities at the University of Kansas in Manhattan, Kansas; Springfield TechnicalCommunity College in Springfield, Massachusetts; and the former Hawthorne College inAntrim, New Hampshire, andWhereas, for a quarter of a century, Mike Wiater patrolled the highways, investigatedcrimes, and protected Vermonters as a member of the Vermont State Police, rising to therank of sergeant, andWhereas, in 2006, Mike Wiater embarked on a new career as a General Assemblydoorkeeper, donning the green jacket that symbolizes his role to facilitate the orderlyflow of activities in the State House during the legislative session, andWhereas, his interrelated duties involve controlling chamber access when the House orSenate convenes; coordinating the distribution of the still-important pink message slips tomembers; and supervising the 8th-grade legislative pages, including teaching them a classon the role and procedures of the General Assembly; and in recognition of his superb jobperformance, in 2017, Mike Wiater was designated head doorkeeper, andWhereas, since 2020, his wife, Donna Wiater, has admirably served as anadministrative assistant in the Office of the Sergeant at Arms, supporting the office inmany ways to ensure it operates with maximum efficiency, andWhereas, Mike and Donna Wiater have served as extraordinary public servants, theirpresence on the State House staff has been invaluable and a delight, and, in 2026, theyare concluding their respective tenures under the golden dome, now therefore be itResolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:That the General Assembly honors General Assembly Head Doorkeeper Michael G.Wiater and his wife, Sergeant at Arms Administrative Assistant Donna Wiater, for theirdedicated State public service and extends future best wishes, and be it furtherVT LEG #390190 v.1R-337 Page 2 of 22026Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution toMike and Donna Wiater.VT LEG #390190 v.1
