HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 7023

A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Randy Mathis upon
being named District 4-AAA Coach of the Year.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to pay
tribute to those excellent coaches who have led their players to success in athletic competition
and in life; and
WHEREAS, one such individual is Randy Mathis, head softball coach at Rhea County
High School and Spring City Middle School, who was recently named District 4-AAA Coach of
the Year; and
WHEREAS, a native of Rhea County, Coach Mathis graduated from Bryan College in
2008 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and organizational management; he
later obtained his master's degree in special education from Grand Canyon University; and
WHEREAS, Randy Mathis led the Rhea County High School softball team to a regular-
season record of 20-4; he has coached the high school team since 2018 and the Spring City
Middle School team since 2013. He also serves as a special education teacher at Rhea County
High School; and
WHEREAS, his many accomplishments aside, he is most grateful for the love and
support of his wife of thirty years, Jamie, and their two children, Skylar Mathis and McKinley
Guthrie; and
WHEREAS, Randy Mathis has distinguished himself as a great coach, tactician, and
motivator of young athletes, and we are pleased to recognize him on this most noteworthy
occasion; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE

CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate Randy Mathis upon being named the District 4-
AAA Coach of the Year, extending our best wishes for every continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
without House or Senate designation.
