House concurrent resolution congratulating Wassick Tire Service ofBennington on its 80th anniversary.(H.C.R.286)Offered by Representatives Greer of Bennington, Morrissey of Bennington, Cooper ofPownal, Corcoran of Bennington, Durfee of Shaftsbury, and Nigro of BenningtonOffered by Senators Bongartz and PlunkettWhereas, during World War II, Steve Wassick Sr. served in the U.S. military, whichassigned him to a vehicle repair unit, and, through this work experience, he developed aninterest in the tire business, andWhereas, upon his return to civilian life, Steve Wassick Sr. worked for Abel’s TireCorporation in Rutland, andWhereas, his marriage to Ellen McArthur of Woodford prompted Steve Wassick Sr. torelocate to Bennington in 1946 and establish his own tire enterprise, Wassick TireService, which, since its opening day, has sold tires and wheels for a variety of motorvehicles and has provided associated support services to ensure these products remainroad-ready, andWhereas, in the early 1980s, Wassick Tire Service experienced a generationalleadership change when Steve Wassick Sr.’s sons, Steve Jr. and Donnie, assumed themantle of leadership, and, subsequently, Donnie purchased his brother’s share of thebusiness, and, in the summer months, Donnie’s son, DJ, a teacher at the StrattonMountain School, works with his father, andWhereas, in 2014, the staff, residents, and volunteers of the Vermont Veterans’ Homepresented Wassick Tire Service with a commemorative plaque in tribute to thecompany’s annual Christmas season display of a lighted Veterans’ Home cross atop itsbuilding, andWhereas, since their inception, the annual Bennington Banner’s Readers’ ChoiceAwards have honored Wassick Tire Service, attesting to the high esteem the company hasearned from eight decades of superb service, andWhereas, Wassick Tire Service epitomizes a well-run family business that is worthy ofthe company’s advertising mottos, “Where the People Know Tires Best” and “The BestTire Dealer in the Shires,” now therefore be itResolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:That the General Assembly congratulates Wassick Tire Service of Bennington on its80th anniversary, and be it furtherResolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution toWassick Tire Service in Bennington.VT LEG #389703 v.1
