House concurrent resolution honoring Patricia Gibbons for herextraordinary half-century teaching career in the Town of Bennington.(H.C.R.295)Offered by Representatives Greer of Bennington, Morrissey of Bennington, Cooper ofPownal, Corcoran of Bennington, Durfee of Shaftsbury, and Nigro of BenningtonOffered by Senators Bongartz and PlunkettWhereas, in September 1975, Patricia Gibbons became a member of the faculty atMount Anthony Union High School in the Town of Bennington, andWhereas, after three short years of high school teaching, recognizing that the highschool pace did not match her preferred teaching style, she transferred to the NorthBennington Graded School, now known as the Village School of North Bennington, andWhereas, this new scholastic setting proved ideal, and she has described her goodfortune to teach at this school as having “won the lottery,” andWhereas, with great creativity, Pat Gibbons taught reading and the magic of books toher students in her third through sixth grade classes at the school, andWhereas, her remarkable pedagogical record served as a pillar of the school, which,during her tenure, transformed in many ways, andWhereas, Pat Gibbons’s nearly 50 years of faculty service at the Village School ofNorth Bennington represents an exemplary testament to her love of learning and to theNorth Bennington community, andWhereas, she has touched countless lives, nurturing and inspiring generations ofstudents with kindness, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to providing them withthe best possible education, andWhereas, after nearly five decades of educating the children of North Bennington, PatGibbons’s decision to put down her pencil and chalk represents the end of an era thatmany will long cherish and remember, now therefore be itResolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:That the General Assembly honors Patricia Gibbons for her extraordinary half-centuryteaching career in the Town of Bennington, and be it furtherResolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution toPat Gibbons, the Village School of North Bennington, and the North Bennington VillageBoard of Trustees.VT LEG #389912 v.1
