sr2025/enrolled.txtCommending the Luray High School boys' basketball team.Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026WHEREAS, the Luray High School boys' basketball team brought home its first state title in 50 years after winning the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship on March 13, 2026; andWHEREAS, the Luray High School Bulldogs defeated the Fort Chiswell High School Pioneers by a score of 84–82 after a tense thriller that featured 11 lead changes, eight ties, and two overtime periods; andWHEREAS, after two senior starters fouled out late in the game, the Luray Bulldogs' deep bench stepped up and held the line, perfectly encapsulating the team's motto, “All grit, no quit,” as they sealed the victory; andWHEREAS, senior Matthew Owens led the Luray Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points, followed by senior Connor Hilliard with 18 points, junior Ayden Haddock with 14 points, and junior Will Judy with 11 points; andWHEREAS, the success of the Luray Bulldogs invigorated the school community and games throughout the season were defined by sell-out crowds and raucous home games; andWHEREAS, the Luray Bulldogs' historic season was a tribute to the hard work and perseverance of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the unwavering support of family members, friends, and the entire Luray High School community; now, therefore, be itRESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Luray High School boys' basketball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship in 2026; and, be itRESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Matt Huff, head coach of the Luray High School boys' basketball team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's athletic achievements.
