sr2014/enrolled.txtCommending the Petersburg High School boys' basketball team.Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026WHEREAS, the Petersburg High School boys' basketball team earned the Virginia High School League Class 3 state title on March 14, 2026, with a commanding 56–35 victory over Lake Taylor High School at the Siegel Center in Richmond; andWHEREAS, the Petersburg High School Crimson Wave brought the state title home for the first time since the legendary Moses Malone-led teams of 1973 and 1974, ending a 52-year state championship drought defined by decades of near misses, including runner-up finishes in 1985, 1989, 2010, 2012, and 2022; andWHEREAS, under the leadership of head coach Ty White, a Petersburg High School alumnus and former standout player and assistant coach, the Petersburg Crimson Wave have demonstrated perseverance, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, bringing a sense of pride and renewed spirit to the Petersburg community; andWHEREAS, Ty White's guidance, combined with the talent and discipline of all the student-athletes on the Petersburg Crimson Wave, resulted in an outstanding season record of 22–4 and an impressive 18-game winning streak to close the season; andWHEREAS, over the course of the season, the Petersburg Crimson Wave showcased exceptional teamwork, unselfish play, and offensive efficiency, recording 12 team assists and demonstrating a commitment to collective success over individual achievement; andWHEREAS, in the state final, the Petersburg Crimson Wave's defensive intensity and execution proved decisive, holding the Lake Taylor Titans to 11-for-41 shooting, forcing 13 turnovers, and exhibiting relentless effort and discipline throughout the game; andWHEREAS, standout performances by Kelvin Anderson, Ladarius Givan, Cam Claiborne, Latrell Allmond, King Bacot, and their teammates highlighted the depth, talent, and unity of the Petersburg Crimson Wave; andWHEREAS, the players, coaches, and staff of Petersburg High School inspired their fellow students, families, alumni, and members of the community who rallied behind the Petersburg Crimson Wave; andWHEREAS, the achievements of the Petersburg Crimson Wave serve as a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, and belief, and stand as a source of inspiration for future generations of student-athletes in Petersburg and across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be itRESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Petersburg High School boys' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be itRESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Petersburg High School boys' basketball team as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's outstanding achievements and best wishes for continued success.
