sr2016/enrolled.txtCelebrating the life of Susan Bulkley Kellom.Agreed to by the Senate, June 22, 2026WHEREAS, Susan Bulkley Kellom, an honorable veteran, dedicated civic leader, passionate political activist, and beloved member of the Alexandria community, died on April 11, 2026; andWHEREAS, born in Philadelphia, Susan Kellom graduated from Gettysburg College before serving her country for several years as a military police officer in the United States Army, becoming one of the first women to be selected for the military police advanced course; andWHEREAS, Susan Kellom moved to Alexandria in the early 1980s and soon became an influential member of the community through her extensive involvement with a number of local civic and political organizations; andWHEREAS, from 1997 to 2013, Susan Kellom was a member of the Alexandria Commission for Women, and she later continued to assist the commission as a member of the board of the Friends of the Alexandria Commission for Women; andWHEREAS, Susan Kellom served on the Alexandria Youth Policy Commission from 1997 to 2003 and on the Alexandria Human Rights Commission for many years, including two terms as chair; andWHEREAS, Susan Kellom served as chair of the Alexandria Democratic Party Committee from 1999 to 2010, and she guided and mentored many candidates and local leaders over the years; andWHEREAS, Susan Kellom was appointed chair of the Alexandria Electoral Board in 2012 and oversaw the city's registrar's office and electoral process with great integrity and professionalism; andWHEREAS, Susan Kellom drove efforts to establish MetroStage in Alexandria, which has made a meaningful and lasting imprint on the city's cultural scene since its founding; andWHEREAS, preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, Susan Kellom will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her brother, David; her stepchildren, Janet, Theresa, and Bernard; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be itRESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Susan Bulkley Kellom, a treasured member of the Alexandria community whose wisdom, compassion, and steadfast commitment to helping others made an impact on countless lives; and, be itRESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Susan Bulkley Kellom as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for her memory.
