HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 115

  A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as Tangipahoa Parish Fair Day at the state capitol,
        to recognize Tangipahoa Parish for its enduring legacy since 1888, and to commend
        the Tangipahoa Parish Fair for its historical, agricultural, and economic significance
        to the city of Amite.
        WHEREAS, the Tangipahoa Parish Fair was first held one hundred thirty-eight years
ago on seventy-five acres in Amite; the fair is the oldest such event in Louisiana and was
created to celebrate local agriculture, promote student involvement, and preserve parish
culture; and
        WHEREAS, the growth of the Tangipahoa Parish Fair is largely attributed to local
families who pass traditions down to younger generations and preserve the importance of
agriculture; and
        WHEREAS, the Tangipahoa Parish Fair has evolved into a five-day celebration and
fall tradition that attracts residents and visitors alike; it features a wide array of activities,
including the display of hundreds of student 4-H entries, a children's livestock show, parish
school booths, live musical entertainment, a cheerleading and dance competition showcasing
local students, a children's school field trip day, a pioneer town, a carnival, a parade, vendor
exhibits, and community gatherings; and
        WHEREAS, a hallmark of the fair is its annual pageant, which has crowned a fair
queen each year since 1951, and many local families proudly pass down participation in the
royal court through multiple generations; and
  WHEREAS, the 2026 Miss Tangipahoa Parish Fair Queen, Maree Mackynzie
Mannino, is honored to be this year's ambassador of the fair; and

        WHEREAS, the 2026 Grand Marshall, Kelly Wells, was selected for his love and
dedication to the fair and to Tangipahoa Parish; and
        WHEREAS, the 2026 royalty is made up of parish students Harper Thornton, Joleigh
Thibodeaux, Karley Cavalier, Hayden Williams, and Molly Lott; they are honored to be
dedicated representatives for the fair; and
        WHEREAS, the 2026 President, Wendy Carrier, has demonstrated leadership and
direction for a successful fair; and
        WHEREAS, the Tangipahoa Parish Fair serves as a celebration of the region's local
culture and heritage, while honoring the families and traditions that helped shape the
community; and
        WHEREAS, the fair continues to play a significant role in fostering community
pride, preserving local history, and promoting student involvement and economic activity
in Tangipahoa Parish; and
        WHEREAS, the one hundred thirty-eighth Tangipahoa Parish Fair will be celebrated
September 30 through October 4, 2026, in Amite, Louisiana.
        THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as Tangipahoa Parish Fair Day at the state capitol;
does hereby commend the Tangipahoa Parish Fair for its historical, agricultural, and
economic significance to the city of Amite; does hereby commemorate the one hundred
thirty-eighth anniversary of the Tangipahoa Parish Fair; and does hereby recognize its
distinction as the oldest fair in the state.
