Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A senate RESOLUTIONTO HONOR MAYCE EDWARD CHRISTOPHER"CHRIS" WEBBER III FOR HIS REMARKABLE BASKETBALL CAREER, HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TOEDUCATION AND COMMENTARY, AND HIS ENDURING POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON GENERATIONS OFYOUNG PEOPLE AND TO DECLARE JUNE 5, 2026, AS "CHRIS WEBBER DAY" IN SOUTHCAROLINA.Whereas, Mayce Edward Christopher Webber III, known worldwide as"Chris Webber" or "C-Webb," has distinguished himself as one of the premierbasketball players of his generation and an influential voice in the game; andWhereas, Chris Webber's basketball journey began at Detroit CountryDay School, where he led his team to three Michigan High School AthleticAssociation state championships; averaged 29.4 points and 13 rebounds per gameas a senior; and was honored as Mr. Basketball of Michigan, the National HighSchool Player of the Year, a two-time Parade All-American, andMcDonald's All-American co-MVP; andWhereas, as a collegiate athlete, Chris Webber became a consensusfirst-team All-American and helped lead the University of Michigan Wolverines'famed "Fab Five" to consecutive appearances in the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Men'sDivision I Basketball Championship games, reshaping the culture and style ofcollege basketball for a new generation of players and fans; andWhereas, Chris Webber was selected first overall in the 1993 NBADraft and went on to play 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association,including with the Golden State Warriors, Washington Bullets/Wizards,Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, and Detroit Pistons; andWhereas, during his NBA career, Chris Webber earned the 1994 NBARookie of the Year Award, became a five-time NBA All-Star, a five-time All-NBATeam selection, and the 1999 NBA rebounding leader, while compiling careeraverages of approximately 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.Moreover, his No. 4 jersey was retired by the Sacramento Kings; andWhereas, beyond his on-court excellence, Chris Webber has contributedto the game and to education as an on-air commentator for NBA basketball and asa teacher and lecturer at institutions such as Wake Forest University andMorehouse College, where he uses his platform to mentor and inspire youngpeople; andWhereas, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and lastingimpact on the sport, Chris Webber was inducted into the Naismith MemorialBasketball Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2021; andWhereas, Chris Webber's legacy as an elite athlete, competitor,mentor, and ambassador for the game continues to inspire athletes, students,and communities across our State and nation.
