Deets, M.D., who passed away on5 May 18, 2026; and6 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets was born to Edgar and Marian (Gilbert)7 Deets in Dixon on March 22, 1947; he graduated from DePauw8 University in Greencastle, Indiana, and he received his9 medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of10 Medicine; and11 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets married Kathryne Olson, who passed away12 in 1981; he later married Jan Welker Gunnon on April 28, 2001;13 and14 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets was a beloved physician and surgeon at15 KSB hospital in Dixon, retiring before the hospital changed16 its name to St. Katharine Medical Center; he also served on the17 Lee County Board, the Illinois State Medical Society Review18 Board, and as a deputy coroner for Lee County; he was a member19 of Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association (NRA);20 and21 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets served as the co-chair of the HometownHR0931 - 2 - LRB104 22071 ECR 38208 r1 Coordination Committee that organized President Ronald2 Reagan's trip to Dixon for the president's birthday in 1984,3 presenting President Reagan with a birthday cake; and4 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets served in the Illinois House of5 Representatives from 1992 to 1993, representing the Dixon area6 in the then 73rd Legislative District, completing the term of7 the late Representative Myron J. Olson who died unexpectedly;8 and9 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets distinguished himself throughout his10 career as a public servant who helped people in multiple11 roles; and12 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets was preceded in death by his parents;13 and14 WHEREAS, Dr. Deets is survived by his wife of 25 years,15 Jan; his children, Christopher (Jennifer) Deets, Amy (Joseph)16 Jasmon, David (Lara Cooper) Deets, and Edward (McAley) Deets;17 his stepchildren, Christopher (Aluinn) Gunnon, DVM, Jeffrey18 (Jennifer) Gunnon, and Katherine (Joshua) McNitt; 1719 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with one on the20 way; therefore, be it21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONEHR0931 - 3 - LRB104 22071 ECR 38208 r1 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that2 we mourn the passing of David K. Deets, M.D. and extend our3 sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew4 and loved him; and be it further5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be6 presented to the family of Dr. Deets as an expression of our7 deepest sympathy.
