sr163/enrolled.txt2026 Regular Session ENROLLEDSENATE RESOLUTION NO. 163BY SENATOR LUNEAUA RESOLUTIONTo commend Grambling State University upon the celebration of the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of its founding and to recognize its enduring contributions to highereducation, leadership, and public service in the state of Louisiana and beyond.WHEREAS, Grambling State University opened on November 1, 1901, as theColored Industrial and Agricultural School; andWHEREAS, the institution was founded through the efforts of the North LouisianaColored Agriculture Relief Association, organized in 1896 by African American farmersseeking to establish educational opportunities for African Americans in their region ofLouisiana; andWHEREAS, in response to the association's request for assistance, Booker T.Washington sent Charles P. Adams to help organize the school, and Adams became itsfounding president; andWHEREAS, in 1905, the institution moved to its present location in Grambling,Louisiana, where it has continued for generations to educate students and serve communitiesthroughout the state of Louisiana, the nation, and the world; andWHEREAS, over the course of its distinguished history, the institution evolved inname and mission and was designated Grambling State University in 1974, while remainingsteadfast in its commitment to academic excellence, opportunity, and service; andWHEREAS, Grambling State University has stood as a proud and enduring symbolof access, achievement, and perseverance and has made an immeasurable impact through theeducation of generations of students and the preparation of leaders, in countless professionsand fields of service, for one hundred twenty-five years; andWHEREAS, the university continues to be guided by its well-known motto, "WhereEverybody is Somebody", a guiding principle that reflects its longstanding commitment tohuman dignity, educational opportunity, and the development of every student; andPage 1 of 2SR NO. 163 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, the celebration of the Grambling State University's one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary is a fitting occasion on which to recognize its historic legacy and itscontinuing importance to the people of Louisiana.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisianadoes hereby commend Grambling State University upon the celebration of the one hundredtwenty-fifth anniversary of its founding and does hereby recognize the university for itsextraordinary and lasting contributions to higher education, leadership, and public service.BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana doeshereby extend its sincere best wishes to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, administration,and supporters of Grambling State University upon the commemoration of this historicmilestone and the institution's proud and enduring legacy of excellence.BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted toGrambling State University.PRESIDENT OF THE SENATEPage 2 of 2
