sr166/enrolled.txt2026 Regular Session ENROLLEDSENATE RESOLUTION NO. 166BY SENATOR BOUDREAUXA RESOLUTIONTo commend the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System for providing reliable public waterservice to the citizens of St. Landry Parish.WHEREAS, the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System was established in 1969 for thepurpose of providing safe, reliable, and centralized public water service to the ruralcommunities of Lewisburg and Bellevue and surrounding areas of St. Landry Parish,Louisiana; andWHEREAS, prior to the establishment of the system, many residents of these ruralcommunities depended upon private wells and limited water sources that often lackeddependable quality, pressure, and adequate fire protection capabilities; andWHEREAS, local citizens and community leaders organized the Lewisburg-BellevueWater System as a nonprofit rural water corporation dedicated to improving public health,sanitation, infrastructure, and quality of life for residents throughout northern and westernOpelousas and surrounding unincorporated communities; andWHEREAS, through decades of service, the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System hasexpanded and modernized its infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the community byinvesting in groundwater wells, pumping stations, elevated storage facilities, chlorinationsystems, distribution pipelines, and fire protection infrastructure; andWHEREAS, the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System has continuously operated inaccordance with state and federal drinking water regulations under the oversight of theLouisiana Department of Health and the United States Environmental Protection Agency,while providing annual water quality reporting and maintaining compliance with publichealth standards; andWHEREAS, the system has played an essential role in supporting residentialdevelopment, improving sanitation, enhancing fire protection capabilities, strengtheningproperty values, and promoting economic and community growth throughout rural portionsof St. Landry Parish; andPage 1 of 2SR NO. 166 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, the Lewisburg and Bellevue communities possess a rich cultural andagricultural heritage deeply rooted in the history of St. Landry Parish, and the creation of theLewisburg-Bellevue Water System represented a major advancement in modern publicinfrastructure for these historic rural communities; andWHEREAS, the continued operation and service of the Lewisburg-Bellevue WaterSystem remains vital to the health, welfare, safety, and prosperity of the citizens it serves.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisianadoes hereby recognize and commend the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System for itslongstanding commitment to providing reliable public water service and infrastructureimprovements to the citizens of St. Landry Parish since its founding in 1969.BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana doeshereby express appreciation for the dedication of the board members, employees, communityleaders, and residents whose efforts have contributed to the success and continued operationof the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System.BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to theLewisburg-Bellevue Water System in recognition of its important contributions to the peopleand communities of St. Landry Parish and the state of Louisiana.PRESIDENT OF THE SENATEPage 2 of 2
