s3336/introduced.txt2026 -- S 3336========LC006548========STATE OF RHODE ISLANDIN GENERAL ASSEMBLYJANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2026____________SENATE RESOLUTIONURGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO ENACT TECHNICAL AMENDMENTSTO THE CAMP LEJEUNE JUSTICE ACT OF 2022Introduced By: Senators Felag, and ValverdeDate Introduced: May 29, 2026Referred To: Placed on the Senate Consent Calendar1WHEREAS, The Senate hereby recognizes the service and sacrifice of the men and2 women of the United States Armed Forces and their families; and3WHEREAS, From 1953 through 1987, individuals stationed at or residing on Marine4 Corps Base Camp Lejeune were exposed to drinking water contaminated with hazardous5 chemicals, resulting in significant adverse health effects, including cancers, neurological6 disorders, and other serious illnesses; and7WHEREAS, In response to this injustice, the Congress of the United States enacted the8 Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 as part of the Honoring our PACT Act of 2022, thereby9 creating a cause of action to allow affected individuals to seek appropriate relief for injuries and10 wrongful death; and11WHEREAS, Since its enactment, hundreds of thousands of claims have been filed,12 revealing significant administrative and judicial challenges, including delays in claim processing,13 uncertainty in applicable legal standards, and barriers to timely resolution; and14WHEREAS, Technical amendments to the Camp Lejeune Justice Act have been15 proposed in the Congress of the United States, including the Ensuring Justice for Camp Lejeune16 Victims Act, to clarify evidentiary standards, improve efficiency in adjudication, and ensure that17 claimants receive fair and timely consideration of their claims; and18WHEREAS, It is in the interest of justice and fairness that Congress act promptly to19 address these issues and fulfill the original intent of providing meaningful relief to those harmed1 by toxic exposure at Camp Lejeune; now, therefore be it2RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby urges the Congress of3 the United States to enact legislation to make necessary technical amendments to the Camp4 Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 in order to ensure the efficient, fair, and expeditious resolution of5 claims; and be it further6RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to7 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, the Speaker8 of the United States House of Representatives, the Majority Leader of the United States Senate,9 and to each member of the Rhode Island Congressional delegation.========LC006548========LC006548 - Page 2 of 2
