                                AN ACT
1 Designating a bridge, identified as Bridge Key 19186,
2    Pennsylvania Route 580, carrying Cush Cushion Creek in Green
3    Township, Indiana County, as the Private Robert M. Pittman
4    Memorial Bridge.
5    The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1.     Private Robert M. Pittman Memorial Bridge.
8    (a)     Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
9 follows:
10(1)   Robert M. Pittman was born June 19, 1921, in Green
11    Township, Indiana County.
12(2)   Robert attended Commodore High School, where he
13    graduated on May 20, 1940.
14(3)   Private Robert M. Pittman was awarded various honors
15    throughout his service in the United States Army, including
16    the World War II Victory Medal, Purple Heart, American
17    Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation and the Army
18    Good Conduct Medal.
1(4)   Private Robert M. Pittman was aboard the USS
2    Dorchester when it was torpedoed near Greenland, and his
3    remains were lost at sea.
4(5)   The ship is the ship of the "Four Chaplains," who
5    gave away their life jackets that others might live.
6(6)   Private Robert M. Pittman's name is listed on the
7    Tablets of the Missing of the East Coast Memorial, New York,
8    NY.
9(7)   Private Robert M. Pittman was reported missing in
10    action and ultimately declared dead on February 3, 1943.
11    (b)   Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key
12 19186, Pennsylvania Route 580, carrying Cush Cushion Creek in
13 Green Township, Indiana County, is designated as the Private
14 Robert M. Pittman Memorial Bridge.
15    (c)   Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
16 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
17 traffic in both directions on the bridge.
18 Section 2.     Effective date.
19    This act shall take effect in 60 days.
