Pittman4 Memorial Bridge.5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania6 hereby enacts as follows:7 Section 1. Private Robert M. Pittman Memorial Bridge.8 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as9 follows:10(1) Robert M. Pittman was born June 19, 1921, in Green11 Township, Indiana County.12(2) Robert attended Commodore High School, where he13 graduated on May 20, 1940.14(3) Private Robert M. Pittman was awarded various honors15 throughout his service in the United States Army, including16 the World War II Victory Medal, Purple Heart, American17 Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation and the Army18 Good Conduct Medal.1(4) Private Robert M. Pittman was aboard the USS2 Dorchester when it was torpedoed near Greenland, and his3 remains were lost at sea.4(5) The ship is the ship of the "Four Chaplains," who5 gave away their life jackets that others might live.6(6) Private Robert M. Pittman's name is listed on the7 Tablets of the Missing of the East Coast Memorial, New York,8 NY.9(7) Private Robert M. Pittman was reported missing in10 action and ultimately declared dead on February 3, 1943.11 (b) Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key12 19186, Pennsylvania Route 580, carrying Cush Cushion Creek in13 Green Township, Indiana County, is designated as the Private14 Robert M. Pittman Memorial Bridge.15 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and16 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to17 traffic in both directions on the bridge.18 Section 2.
