HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
153rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 145
RECOGNIZING JUNE 2026 AS LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, 2026 marks the 250
th
anniversary of our country’s founding, a time during which the seeds of freedom were planted, that overtime blossomed into a number of liberation movements; and
WHEREAS, June 28, 2026, marks the 57th anniversary of the famous uprising at the Stonewall Inn, when members of the LGBTQ+ community finally fought back during a police raid – a common occurrence, enabled by unjust laws that criminalized same-sex love and gender non-conformity – sparking days of protest; and
WHEREAS, the Stonewall uprising led to the emergence of what we today call the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement, forged out of movements for gay liberation, lesbian feminism, AIDS era activism, academic queer theory, marriage equality organizing, and the struggle for transgender rights; and
WHEREAS, the LGBTQ+ community has made immense strides towards equality since that fateful day in June 1969 through both hard-won legislation and important Supreme Court cases, such as
Lawrence v. Texas
and
Obergefell v. Hodges
; and
WHEREAS, the state of Delaware ranks fourth in the country when it comes to LGBTQ+ equality, and its voters elected the first-ever transgender Congresswoman; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Delawareans and their allies take great pride in these accomplishments, even as they must renew their commitment to fight against an extremist movement that seeks to strip their hard-won rights and insult their human dignity; and
WHEREAS, today, the General Assembly recommits to guaranteeing equality and fairness for all Delawareans, including those that are LGBTQ+, while also respecting the great diversity that exists within that community.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the State of Delaware acknowledges the month of June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
