A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 25–31, 2026, as WE ARE ILL WEEK and commending We Are ILL
for its commitment to advancing awareness, advocacy, and support for individuals living
with chronic illness, autoimmune disease, and neurological conditions; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, chronic illness, autoimmune diseases, and neurological conditions impact
millions of individuals and families across the United States and throughout the State of
Georgia, affecting physical health, emotional well-being, employment, caregiving
responsibilities, and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, many chronic and autoimmune conditions, including but not limited to multiple
sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), lupus, and related
illnesses, are often invisible or misunderstood, contributing to delayed diagnosis, barriers to
care, and social stigma; and
WHEREAS, Black women and other historically underserved communities experience
disproportionate challenges related to chronic illness, including inequitable health outcomes,
systemic barriers to care, and disparities in diagnosis and treatment; and

WHEREAS, We Are ILL was established to amplify the voices and lived experiences of
individuals navigating chronic illness, elevate patient and caregiver advocacy, promote
public awareness, and encourage equitable, compassionate, and person-centered systems of
care; and
WHEREAS, We Are ILL creates opportunities for collaboration across disease communities
and awareness observances, fostering collective action, education, and engagement among
patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, advocates, and policymakers; and
WHEREAS, WE ARE ILL WEEK will serve as an opportunity to increase awareness,
encourage advocacy, elevate community voices, and recognize the resilience of individuals
and families impacted by chronic illness throughout Georgia; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions of
organizations and individuals working to improve the lives of those affected by chronic
illness be appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize October 25–31, 2026, as WE ARE ILL WEEK and
commend We Are ILL for its leadership and advocacy on behalf of individuals living with
chronic illness and caregivers throughout Georgia and beyond.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to We
Are ILL.
