                                A RESOLUTION
1 Honoring the life and legacy of Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens; and for other purposes.
2 WHEREAS, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens was born on November 26, 1926, in Havana,
3 Florida, to the late Goldie Ervin Harrison and John Spencer Harrison; and
4 WHEREAS, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens was a woman of unwavering faith, strength,
5 and dignity who lived her life with grace, compassion, and determination; and
6 WHEREAS, she was a faithful and devoted member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist
7 Church, where her spiritual foundation and love for God guided her throughout her life; and
8 WHEREAS, Sister Mickens was known as a hardworking and dedicated woman who labored
9 in the tobacco fields and later served as a Supervisor at the Crab Factory in Havana, Florida,
10 demonstrating leadership, perseverance, and a strong work ethic; and
11 WHEREAS, she was united in holy matrimony to Arthur Mickens, and together they built
12 a loving family and were blessed with nine children, all of whom she nurtured with wisdom,
13 discipline, and unconditional love; and

14 WHEREAS, Sister Mickens possessed a vibrant spirit and a love for travel, faithfully making
15 yearly summer trips to New York, embracing opportunities to experience life beyond her
16 hometown while maintaining strong ties to family and community; and
17 WHEREAS, she greatly admired Father Divine for his wisdom and education, reflecting her
18 appreciation for knowledge, leadership, and spiritual guidance; and
19 WHEREAS, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens was known as a strong woman who stood her
20 ground, spoke with conviction, and carried herself with courage and dignity, earning the love
21 and respect of all who knew her; and
22 WHEREAS, on February 16, 1962, Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens departed this earthly
23 life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, strength, devotion to family, and enduring
24 love that continues to inspire generations.
25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
26 the members of this body honor the life and memory of Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens
27 and celebrate her many contributions as a devoted wife, mother, church member, worker, and
28 pillar of strength within her family and community.
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
31 family of Sister Ella Mae Harrison Mickens.
