                               A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing and commending Mrs. Florine Jackson Thompson upon the grand occasion of
2 her 100th birthday; and for other purposes.
3 WHEREAS, Mrs. Florine Jackson Thompson, a beloved citizen of Columbus, Georgia, will
4 celebrate her 100th birthday on June 18, 2026, marking a remarkable century of faith, grace,
5 service, and kindness; and
6 WHEREAS, born on June 18, 1926, in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, Mrs.
7 Thompson has witnessed and contributed to a century of history while remaining a shining
8 example of dignity, perseverance, and compassion; and
9 WHEREAS, she attended Claflin Elementary School and graduated from Spencer High
10 School before continuing her education at Spelman College alongside her sister, Mary
11 Jackson, where they pursued studies in music until family responsibilities called them home;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, a lifetime member of Rose Hill Memorial Baptist Church, Mrs. Thompson has
14 faithfully served her church and community since joining as a teenager, exemplifying
15 unwavering devotion to her faith and a steadfast commitment to uplifting others; and

16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson was married for more than 30 years to the late Master Sergeant
17 George Thompson, Jr., and together they shared a loving and devoted marriage, attending
18 church services and social gatherings, traveling, entertaining family and friends, and creating
19 treasured memories that continue to inspire those who knew them; and
20 WHEREAS, throughout her professional career, she demonstrated excellence and
21 determination, beginning with positions at the historic Liberty Theatre and the Ralston Hotel
22 before becoming a highly respected fashion consultant and sales associate at Matthews, one
23 of Columbus's premier ladies' clothing stores; and
24 WHEREAS, her impeccable sense of style and elegance earned her induction into The 10
25 Best Dressed Women Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Models Club in Columbus's Black
26 community, and recognition in The Columbus Times; and
27 WHEREAS, gifted with a love of music, Mrs. Thompson and her sister, Mary Jackson,
28 delighted audiences throughout Columbus as The Jackson Sisters, performing at churches
29 and community events; she also cherished singing at home while accompanied on the baby
30 grand piano by her beloved husband; and
31 WHEREAS, she continues to enjoy listening to gospel and jazz music, tending to her indoor
32 and outdoor plants, and sharing her warmth and wisdom with family and friends; and
33 WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson has been blessed with a loving family, including her devoted
34 niece, Jacqueline Dewberry Searcy, who affectionately refers to her as her "other Mother";
35 nieces Carole Jackson Munroe and Charita Jackson; nephew Terry Ford; grandnephew Henry
36 Searcy, who lovingly nicknamed her "Sweet Thang"; and a host of adoring family members
37 and friends whose lives have been enriched by her presence; and

38 WHEREAS, when asked the secret to reaching such a remarkable milestone, Mrs. Thompson
39 humbly replies that it is simply "being kind to everyone," a philosophy she has faithfully
40 practiced throughout her life and one that has touched countless hearts; and
41 WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson's century of life stands as a testament to faith, family, kindness,
42 and community service, and it is abundantly fitting that this distinguished Georgian be
43 recognized and celebrated on this extraordinary occasion.
44 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
45 recognize and commend Mrs. Florine Jackson Thompson on the joyous occasion of her 100th
46 birthday and extend their warmest congratulations, best wishes for continued happiness and
47 good health, and sincere appreciation for the positive impact she has made upon her family,
48 church, community, and the State of Georgia.
49 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
50 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs. Florine
51 Jackson Thompson.
