                                 A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing and commending Speaker Jon Burns and Mrs. Dayle Burns upon the celebration
2 of their 50th wedding anniversary; and for other purposes.
3 WHEREAS, on June 26, 1976, following their graduation from Georgia Southern University,
4 Jon and Dayle were united in marriage before family, friends, and loved ones at Holy Trinity
5 Episcopal Church in Bartow, Florida, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith, love,
6 mutual respect, and an unwavering commitment to one another; and
7 WHEREAS, as they celebrate the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary, they
8 mark a milestone that reflects five decades of enduring devotion, shared purpose, and
9 steadfast support through every season of life; and
10 WHEREAS, together they have built a loving family, raising two sons, Jon Guerry Burns and
11 Wilson Burns, and delighting in the blessings of five beloved grandchildren—Jon David,
12 Ava, Elizabeth, Georgia, and Lila—whose lives stand as a testament to the values of faith,
13 integrity, and compassion instilled by their grandparents; and
14 WHEREAS, their grandchildren have expressed profound gratitude for the impact Jon and
15 Dayle Burns have had on their lives, sharing that Jon and Dayle's commitment to one another

16 has taught them the importance of family, hard work, and unconditional love; that some of
17 their most cherished memories are because of their grandparents and will remain with them
18 forever; that Jon and Dayle have shown them what a strong marriage looks like and have
19 always been the heart of their family; and that they are honored to celebrate this milestone
20 with them; and
21 WHEREAS, Jon and Dayle Burns are devoted members of the historic Mizpah Church in
22 Clyo, Georgia, where their faith and church family have served as the cornerstone of their
23 marriage and lives; and
24 WHEREAS, Mrs. Dayle Burns devoted her distinguished career to educating and inspiring
25 the children of Southeast Georgia, faithfully serving generations of students while expanding
26 opportunities for academic achievement and lifelong success; and
27 WHEREAS, Speaker Burns has faithfully served the people of Georgia with integrity,
28 humility, and principled leadership, and his extraordinary service has been strengthened by
29 the constant encouragement, wisdom, and partnership of Dayle, whose support has been
30 instrumental throughout his years of public service; and
31 WHEREAS, united by a shared passion for improving the lives of their neighbors, they have
32 championed meaningful advancements in education, including supporting Georgia's most
33 significant early literacy reforms in decades, helping ensure that countless children are
34 equipped with the foundational skills needed to thrive for generations to come; and
35 WHEREAS, throughout their marriage, Jon and Dayle Burns have remained true partners in
36 every endeavor, faithfully supporting one another from the farm to the classroom, from the
37 halls of the State Capitol to the warmth of their home, strengthening one another through

38 every challenge and triumph while dedicating themselves to serving their family, their
39 community, and the great State of Georgia; and
40 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body recognize the
41 extraordinary example set by Jon and Dayle Burns, whose lives together have been defined
42 by faith, family, service, and an enduring love that continues to inspire all who know them;
43 and
44 WHEREAS, we know what they know; it's a GREAT DAY TO BE A GEORGIAN!
45 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
46 the members of this body recognize and commend Speaker Jon Burns and Mrs. Dayle Burns
47 upon the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2026; extend their
48 heartfelt congratulations and best wishes; and express profound appreciation for their many
49 contributions to the State of Georgia.
50 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
51 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to
52 Speaker Jon Burns and Mrs. Dayle Burns.
