b260762/introduced.txt12Chairman Phil Mendelson34567A BILL891011IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA1213141516 To amend, on a temporary basis, section 47-1332 of the District of Columbia Official Code to17cancel the tax sale scheduled for July 15, 2026, prohibit any tax sale from being held until18September 20, 2026 at the earliest, and to require notice of the cancellation be mailed to19affected property owners.2021BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this22 act may be cited as the “Real Property Tax Sale Delay Temporary Amendment Act of 2026”.23Sec. 2. Section 47-1332 of the District of Columbia Official Code is amended as follows:24(a) Subsection (a) is amended by striking the phrase “(c) and (d)” and inserting the25 phrase “(c), (d), and (d-1)” in its place.26(b) A new subsection (d-1) is added to read as follows:27“(d-1)(1) The tax sale scheduled for July 15, 2026 shall be cancelled and no additional28 tax sales shall be held until September 20, 2026 at the earliest.29“(2) The Chief Financial Officer shall mail notice of the cancellation to each30 person who was mailed a notice of tax delinquency pursuant to § 47-1341(a) to the same address31 to which the notice of tax delinquency was mailed.”.32Sec. 3. Applicability.33This act shall apply as of July 1, 2026.134Sec. 4. Fiscal impact statement.35The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement of the Chief Financial Officer as the fiscal36 impact statement required by section 4a of the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975,37 approved October 16, 2006 (120 Stat. 2038; D.C. Official Code § 1-301.47a).38Sec. 5. Effective date.39(a) This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by40 the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day period of congressional review41 as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December42 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the D.C.43 Register.44(b) This act shall expire after 225 days of its having taken effect.2
