h1245/enrolled.txtGENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINASESSION 2025H SimpleResolutionAdoptedHOUSE RESOLUTION 1245Adopted 8/5/26Sponsors: Representative Bell.For a complete list of sponsors, refer to the North Carolina General Assembly web site.Referred to: Calendar 8/5/2026August 4, 20261 A HOUSE RESOLUTION HONORING THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED2 STATES OF AMERICA AND CELEBRATING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE STATE3 OF NORTH CAROLINA.4Whereas, July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary—the Semiquincentennial—of5 the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States of6 America; and7Whereas, for two and one-half centuries the people of the United States have built8 and sustained a nation dedicated to the principles of liberty, equality, and self-government; and9Whereas, the State of North Carolina played a pivotal role in the movement for10 American independence; and11Whereas, on April 12, 1776, the Fourth Provincial Congress, meeting at Halifax,12 adopted the Halifax Resolves, the first official action by an entire colony recommending13 independence from Great Britain, a date memorialized on the North Carolina State flag and seal;14 and15Whereas, the citizens of Mecklenburg County are remembered for the Mecklenburg16 Resolves of May 1775, among the earliest American expressions of the desire for independence;17 and18Whereas, North Carolinians served with distinction throughout the Revolutionary19 War; and20Whereas, true to its motto of "To be rather than to seem," North Carolina has21 continued to contribute to the strength, prosperity, and character of the nation; and22Whereas, it is fitting to commemorate this milestone anniversary and to honor the23 enduring legacy of the State of North Carolina; Now, therefore,24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:25SECTION 1. The 250th anniversary of the United States of America is hereby26 recognized and celebrated as a landmark occasion in the history of the nation.27SECTION 2. The historic and continuing contributions of the State of North28 Carolina to the founding and flourishing of the United States are hereby honored and29 commemorated.30SECTION 3. The people of North Carolina are encouraged to observe this31 Semiquincentennial and to participate in commemorative events celebrating the nation's 250th32 anniversary.33SECTION 4.
