Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A house RESOLUTIONTO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE MEMBERS OF THE GREENVILLEGIRL FRIENDS AT THE CELEBRATION OF THEIR TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO EXTENDBEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP, SERVICE, AND CONVIVIALITY.Whereas, the SouthCarolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of theGreenville Girl Friends will celebrate their silver jubilee on September 12,2026; andWhereas, the GreenvilleChapter of The Girl Friends® Inc. is part of one of the oldest and most highlyrespected social organizations of African American women in the United States.Founded in 1927 in New York City during the Harlem Renaissance, The Girl Friends®now includes forty-nine chapters nationwide, of which the Greenville Chapter isthe forty-third. Members serve their communities in countless capacities, asauthors, professors, doctors, lawyers, business owners, members of the U.S.Congress, wives, and mothers; andWhereas, theorganization's purpose is upheld by four pillars: the promotion of friendship; theprovision of social activities; the performance of civic services in localcommunities through organizations like Meals on Wheels, United Way, and EleosMinistry; and the support of national projects; andWhereas, communityservice efforts span charitable and cultural initiatives. Nationally, the grouphas supported organizations such as the NAACP, United Negro College Fund,Children's Defense Fund, Martin Luther King Memorial Foundation, andSmithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, as well asrelief efforts for the Flint water crisis. In 1989, The Girl Friends®established The Girl Friends Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providingfinancial assistance to students across the country; andWhereas, the Housetakes great pride and pleasure in saluting the members of the Greenville GirlFriends as they commemorate a quarter century of praiseworthy accomplishments.Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, recognize and honor the members of the Greenville GirlFriends at the celebration of their twenty-fifth anniversary and extend bestwishes for many more years of friendship, service, and conviviality.Be it further resolvedthat a copy of this resolution be presented to the Greenville Girl Friends.----XX----This web page was last updated on August 11, 2026 at 03:21 PM
