sr360/introduced.txtPRINTER'S NO. 1914THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIASENATE RESOLUTIONNo. 360Session of2026INTRODUCED BY KANE, STREET, MARTIN, HAYWOOD, KIM, CULVER ANDSANTARSIERO, AUGUST 26, 2026REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, AUGUST 26, 2026A RESOLUTION1 Recognizing the month of August 2026 as "Appendix Cancer2 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.3 WHEREAS, Appendix cancer, also known as appendiceal cancer,4 is a rare but serious disease, affecting approximately two to5 nine people per million each year in the United States; and6 WHEREAS, Although appendix cancer is genetically distinct7 from colorectal cancer, its incidence has been rising8 significantly in recent years, particularly among individuals9 under 50 years of age; and10 WHEREAS, Due in part to its rarity, appendix cancer is often11 misunderstood and can be difficult to diagnose, resulting in12 frequent delays or misdiagnoses that may negatively impact13 patient outcomes and quality of life; and14 WHEREAS, Symptoms of appendix cancer may be vague or absent15 in early stages and many individuals are not diagnosed until the16 disease has advanced, making treatment more complex and17 challenging; and18 WHEREAS, Treatment for appendix cancer varies based on type1 and stage, and may include surgery, chemotherapy and other2 therapies, underscoring the importance of early detection and3 increased awareness; and4 WHEREAS, The Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation, founded5 in 2008, works to fund research and education to improve the6 diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer and pseudomyxoma7 peritonei; and8 WHEREAS, Patients, survivors, caregivers, health care9 professionals, advocates and organizations across the country10 are working together to raise awareness, support research and11 improve outcomes for those affected by appendix cancer;12 therefore be it13 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of August 202614 as "Appendix Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania and urge15 all Pennsylvanians to be aware of this serious disease, take16 steps to promote early detection and work toward a cure.20260SR0360PN1914 - 2 -
