1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Norlyn Dossey on his
4 storied service as a member of the United States Marine Corps
5 and as a television and radio engineer; and
6 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey, a Vermilion County native, served
7 his country as a member of the First Marine Division, survived
8 being wounded in action, and received a Purple Heart 81 years
9 ago; and
10 WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Norlyn
11 Dossey moved to Cleveland, Ohio to serve as a radio engineer
12 for an FM station; he returned to Danville upon learning that
13 Northwestern Publishing Co. Inc., a subsidiary of Gannett Co.,
14 Inc. and owner of Commercial-News and WDAN AM radio, planned
15 to add a TV station to its local media holdings; and
16 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey served as an engineer in the
17 building of WDAN-TV in 1953 and continued as part of the
18 station's technical and operations staff through the early
19 1960s; and
20 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey later contributed to the building
21 of the Danville Community Antenna System to establish cable

1 television service in the mid-1960s; and
2 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey became a businessman when he and
3 his brother, Marvin Dossey, opened the Dossey Brothers Conoco
4 Service Station at the corner of North Vermilion Street and
5 East Seminary Street in Danville; and
6 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey has supported local auto racing
7 with the sponsorship of many cars and drivers throughout the
8 region; and
9 WHEREAS, At the age of 102, Norlyn Dossey is the last
10 living person involved in the building of a heritage TV
11 station in mid-Illinois in 1953; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate Norlyn Dossey on playing a pivotal role in
15 developing the radio and television systems in Vermilion
16 County and commend him for his service to this country in the
17 Marine Corps; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Norlyn Dossey as an expression of our respect and
20 esteem for a vibrant 81-year career that serves as a leading
21 example of hard work and dedication.

Congratulates Norlyn Dossey on playing a pivotal role in developing the radio and television systems in Vermilion County and commends him for his service to this country in the Marine Corps.
