Inc., a subsidiary of Gannett Co.,14 Inc. and owner of Commercial-News and WDAN AM radio, planned15 to add a TV station to its local media holdings; and16 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey served as an engineer in the17 building of WDAN-TV in 1953 and continued as part of the18 station's technical and operations staff through the early19 1960s; and20 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey later contributed to the building21 of the Danville Community Antenna System to establish cableHR1018 - 2 - LRB104 23046 RMO 39502 r1 television service in the mid-1960s; and2 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey became a businessman when he and3 his brother, Marvin Dossey, opened the Dossey Brothers Conoco4 Service Station at the corner of North Vermilion Street and5 East Seminary Street in Danville; and6 WHEREAS, Norlyn Dossey has supported local auto racing7 with the sponsorship of many cars and drivers throughout the8 region; and9 WHEREAS, At the age of 102, Norlyn Dossey is the last10 living person involved in the building of a heritage TV11 station in mid-Illinois in 1953; therefore, be it12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE13 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that14 we congratulate Norlyn Dossey on playing a pivotal role in15 developing the radio and television systems in Vermilion16 County and commend him for his service to this country in the17 Marine Corps; and be it further18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be19 presented to Norlyn Dossey as an expression of our respect and20 esteem for a vibrant 81-year career that serves as a leading21 example of hard work and dedication.
Congratulates Norlyn Dossey on playing a pivotal role in developing the radio and television systems in Vermilion County and commends him for his service to this country in the Marine Corps.
