No. 22HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONWHEREAS, Dr. James Olson, a psychology professor at TheUniversity of Texas Permian Basin, is celebrating 50 years ofservice at the university; andWHEREAS, A native of Southern California, James Olson earnedhis bachelor's degree from the University of California SantaBarbara in 1969, and during his undergraduate years, he contributedto a groundbreaking project that sought to teach language tochimpanzees; he went on to receive a master's degree and doctoratein psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles; in1973, he became one of the founding faculty members of TheUniversity of Texas Permian Basin; andWHEREAS, Over the course of his career at UTPB, Dr. Olson hasexcelled in his teaching duties and has served as chair of thepsychology, sociology, and criminology departments; in 1994, hebecame the first dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and servedin that role for a decade; currently, he holds the R. V. Cardozierendowed professorship and teaches both undergraduate and master'slevel psychology courses; he has coauthored multiple books,including two titles based on interviews he conducted withresidential burglars, and his work on the subject has receivednational media attention; andWHEREAS, Dr. Olson has earned a number of prestigiousteaching honors, including the Piper Professor Award in 2011 andthe Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award from The University ofTexas System in 2012; andWHEREAS, Dr. James Olson's dedication, expertise, andcommitment to excellence have benefited countless students andbrought him significant renown in the field of psychology, and TheUniversity of Texas Permian Basin is indeed fortunate to count himamong its most esteemed faculty members; now, therefore, be itRESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texashereby commend Dr. James Olson on 50 years of service to TheUniversity of Texas Permian Basin and extend to him sincere bestwishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it furtherRESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution beprepared for Dr. Olson as an expression of high regard by the TexasHouse of Representatives and Senate.Craddick____________________________________________________________President of the SenateSpeaker of the HouseI certify that H.C.R.
