R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Holmes High School is hosting the Northside
Independent School District Council of PTAs Founders Day
celebration on February 6, 2025, providing a fitting opportunity to
recognize the history of the school; and
WHEREAS, The second-oldest campus in Northside ISD, Holmes
High School opened in 1964 and was named after Oliver Wendell Holmes
Jr., former associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court; its 2,500
students and their families are part of a diverse, hardworking
community that unites to transform learning for all Huskies;
notable alumni include U.S. Senator John Cornyn, State
Representative Trey Martinez Fischer, former NFL tight ends Keith
and Kerry Cash, and musician Steve Earle; and
WHEREAS, Founders Day is an opportunity to reflect on the
achievements of PTAs at the local and national levels; the
Northside ISD observance is rotated among the district high schools
each year, with the festivities highlighting important elements of
the host campus; at the 2025 celebration, the talented students of
Holmes are connecting with the greater community by showcasing
their skills; members of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer
Training Corps are presenting the colors, fine arts students are
supplying entertainment, culinary students are overseeing the
catering, and the school's spirit organizations are acting as
greeters; and
WHEREAS, For more than six decades, Holmes High School has
provided generations of young Texans with a strong foundation on
which to build, and its rich history is a source of tremendous pride
to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Holmes High School on the occasion of the
Northside ISD Council of PTAs Founders Day celebration and extend
to all those associated with the school sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Holmes High School as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
