8 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to establish the
9 compensation rate for members of the General Assembly as the median wage
10 in Vermont, as calculated by the Vermont Department of Labor. This bill also
11 proposes to enable members of the General Assembly to participate in health
12 insurance and retirement programs offered to State employees. This bill
13 further proposes to establish a maximum salary for the Governor, which shall
14 be not more than 21 times the lowest salary paid to an elected State officer in a
15 given year.

18 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
