Turner Jr.(H.C.R.30)Offered by All Members of the HouseOffered by All Members of the SenateWhereas, Don Turner graduated from Milton High School and Champlain College andserved his hometown and the State of Vermont as an exemplary public official, andWhereas, at 16 years of age, he volunteered for the Milton Fire and RescueDepartment, beginning a three-decade-plus firefighting career, and for many years, heserved in the dual roles of fire chief and town forest fire warden, and his other civic rolesincluded service on the Board of Civil Authority and, more recently, as Milton’srespected town manager, a position that benefited from his wealth of prior municipalexperience, andWhereas, in early 2006, Governor Jim Douglas appointed Don Turner to represent theTown of Milton in the General Assembly, and the voters of his House district reaffirmedtheir support of his legislative tenure at six subsequent elections, andWhereas, prior to the 2011 legislative session, the House Republican Caucus electedDon Turner as its leader for the first of four consecutive terms, and he ardently advocatedon its behalf while also promoting an amicable legislative process, andWhereas, aside from his public sector duties, Don Turner was a successful realtor,helped oversee his family’s construction business and bowling alley, and was an avid fanof Milton High School’s girls’ soccer team, andWhereas, Don Turner briefly, but bravely, battled against glioblastoma prior to hisdeath on November 30, 2024, at 60 years of age, and he is survived by his loving wife of40 years, Gail; his children; grandchildren; and parents, and the citizens of Milton willmiss his friendship and leadership, now therefore be itResolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:That the General Assembly expresses its sincere condolences to the family of formerRepresentative, House Republican Leader, and Milton Town Manager Donald H. TurnerJr., and be it furtherResolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution tothe members of Don Turner’s family, the Milton Town Clerk, and the Milton FireDepartment.VT LEG #382061 v.1
