A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE DENMARK-OLAR BOYS BASKETBALL
TEAM ON CAPTURING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE CLASS A STATE
CHAMPIONSHIP IN BOYS BASKETBALL AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES,
AND STAFF.
Whereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives is proud to recognize the Denmark-Olar High
School boys basketball team for winning the 2025 South Carolina High School League
(SCHSL) Class A State Championship on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Florence
Center Arena in Florence; and
Whereas, the
Denmark-Olar High School boys basketball team first found out that their head
coach, Hercules Davis, was planning to retire on the school's Senior Night,
toward the end of the regular season. It was significant, considering ten of
the thirteen players on the roster were seniors. The team made a promise they
were going to give Coach Davis a ring, and they lived up to the expectation. Not
only did the Vikings bring home the championship trophy in Davis's last game,
but they earned the first boys basketball state title ever for Denmark-Olar;
and
Whereas, Joshua
Goodman, Terrence Hinton, Tykeem Ross, Christian Nimmons, Robert Bovain,
Geontae Staley, Nyheem Brimfield, Carlos Johnson, William Ross, Se'Quavin
Pough, Courtney Washington, Reginald Youmans, and Jordan Howell represented the
Denmark-Olar boys basketball team in the title competition; and
Whereas, five of the ten
seniors played the entire game, with Goodman and Ross, fellow forward Robert
Bovain and guards Terrence Hinton and Christian Nimmons each logging thirty-two
minutes. Abbeville controlled the momentum early, but they were never able to
be dominant. After the Vikings scored the game's first basket, the Panthers
scored the next nine points. Nevertheless, the Vikings scored the next nine
points to regain the lead early in the second quarter; and
Whereas, to the delight
of their faithful fans, the team overcame a slow start to take a double-digit
lead in the third quarter and held down the stretch for an outstanding victory
over Abbeville, a team that only two others managed to knock off this season;
and
Whereas, Joshua Goodman,
led the way in scoring, and the Vikings were up by eight, with eight minutes
left in the fourth quarter. A few mental mistakes in the final minute gave the
Panthers life, but a team with ten seniors would not be denied their chance at
history. The boys kept their focus and composure to win the game with a final
score of 58-52; and
Whereas, the House of
Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young players of the
Denmark-Olar boys basketball team for leading with excellence both in the
classroom and on the court, and the members expect to hear of continued great
achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House
of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate
the Denmark-Olar boys basketball team on capturing the 2025 South Carolina High
School League Class A State Championship in boys basketball and honor the
team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution
be presented to Dr. Deonia Simmons, principal of Denmark-Olar High School, and
Head Coach Hercules Davis.
