No. 7HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONWHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew toa close with the passing of Richard Augustus Hewitt of San Antonioon October 30, 2024, at the age of 88; andWHEREAS, The son of Herman and Elma Hewitt, Richard Hewittwas born in Effingham, South Carolina, on December 11, 1935, and hegrew up with the companionship of a brother, James; during hisyouth, he was active in Future Farmers of America; andWHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Hewittserved in the U.S. Air Force for two decades, and he completednumerous assignments across the United States and around the globe;he took on a number of different roles over the years, includingMorse code operator, radio operator, and computer technician, andhe eventually retired at the rank of technical sergeant; he went onto enjoy a rewarding career with the Burroughs Corporation; andWHEREAS, A dedicated Mason for 57 years, Mr. Hewitt wasinvolved in Kelly Lodge No. 1131, where he served as seniorsteward, chaplain, and junior deacon; among his many achievements,he received the 50 Year Service Award from the lodge on September 1,2016; in addition, he gave generously of his time to various civicorganizations, including the graduation committee and band parentgroup at John Marshall High School; he also chartered the SanAntonio chapter of Special Military Active Recreational Travelers,and he further distinguished himself as the club's regionaldirector for New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas; andWHEREAS, Mr. Hewitt and his first wife, the former DorothyBroadway, shared a number of happy years together before herpassing; fortunate enough to find love again, he enjoyed afulfilling marriage with the former Patsy Brown; he took greatpride in his five children, Dana, Patti, Rhonda Faye, Karen, andRick, and he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family sixgrandchildren, Jeremy, Brian, John, Joy, Robin, and Reagan, sixgreat-grandchildren, Toby, Jake, Taegan, Bridget, Cohen Lee, andEmerson Grace, and a great-great-grandchild, Kolt; andWHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his community, andhis country, Richard Hewitt earned the lasting respect andadmiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore,be itRESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas,2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of RichardAugustus Hewitt and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family andfriends; and, be it furtherRESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution beprepared for his family and that when the Texas House ofRepresentatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory ofRichard Hewitt.Craddick____________________________________________________________President of the SenateSpeaker of the HouseI certify that H.C.R.
