H.C.R. No. 7
  HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of Richard Augustus Hewitt of San Antonio
  on October 30, 2024, at the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Herman and Elma Hewitt, Richard Hewitt
  was born in Effingham, South Carolina, on December 11, 1935, and he
  grew up with the companionship of a brother, James; during his
  youth, he was active in Future Farmers of America; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Hewitt
  served in the U.S. Air Force for two decades, and he completed
  numerous assignments across the United States and around the globe;
  he took on a number of different roles over the years, including
  Morse code operator, radio operator, and computer technician, and
  he eventually retired at the rank of technical sergeant; he went on
  to enjoy a rewarding career with the Burroughs Corporation; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated Mason for 57 years, Mr. Hewitt was
  involved in Kelly Lodge No. 1131, where he served as senior
  steward, chaplain, and junior deacon; among his many achievements,
  he received the 50 Year Service Award from the lodge on September 1,
  2016; in addition, he gave generously of his time to various civic
  organizations, including the graduation committee and band parent
  group at John Marshall High School; he also chartered the San
  Antonio chapter of Special Military Active Recreational Travelers,
  and he further distinguished himself as the club's regional
  director for New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hewitt and his first wife, the former Dorothy
  Broadway, shared a number of happy years together before her
  passing; fortunate enough to find love again, he enjoyed a
  fulfilling marriage with the former Patsy Brown; he took great
  pride in his five children, Dana, Patti, Rhonda Faye, Karen, and
  Rick, and he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family six
  grandchildren, Jeremy, Brian, John, Joy, Robin, and Reagan, six
  great-grandchildren, Toby, Jake, Taegan, Bridget, Cohen Lee, and
  Emerson Grace, and a great-great-grandchild, Kolt; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his community, and
  his country, Richard Hewitt earned the lasting respect and
  admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas,
  2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard
  Augustus Hewitt and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Richard Hewitt.
