No. 167R E S O L U T I O NWHEREAS, Residents of San Antonio are mourning the loss ofAmparo Hurtado Ortiz, a beloved figure in local broadcasting, whopassed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 81; andWHEREAS, The daughter of Jorge Hurtado Camacho and SoledadTrujillo Ramirez, the former Maria Amparo Hurtado was born onAugust 1, 1944, in Armenia, Colombia, and she was among the eldestof her nine siblings; she graduated from high school and earned acollege degree in Armenia and later moved to Bogotá, where shemajored in business administration at the Universidad Nacional deColombia; she then studied English and the arts in Saltillo,Mexico, before arriving in San Antonio to attend Our Lady of theLake University; andWHEREAS, Mrs. Ortiz enjoyed a rewarding career in radio andTV, starting with her first job as community relations director forKSAH Radio Festival; she then joined Univision KWEX-TV aspromotions manager and community affairs director; she was bestknown for her long-running talk show, Desde San Antonio, in whichshe interviewed politicians, actors, singers, and other publicfigures; passionate about education, a segment of her programspotlighted outstanding local students each week; one of herproudest accomplishments was when she helped ensure thatpresidential speeches are broadcast with Spanish translations; andWHEREAS, Actively engaged in her community, Mrs. Ortizserved on numerous boards, and she was a member of such institutionsas the Children's Defense Fund, the San Antonio Performing ArtsAssociation, and the San Antonio Teen Pregnancy Prevention Center;in 1992, she was inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Famefor her work in communications; she received many other accolades,including Small Business Journalist Advocate of the Year fromGovernor Rick Perry and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Nissan;andWHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Ortiz was blessed withthe love and support of her husband, Lorenzo, with whom she shared afulfilling marriage of more than 50 years until his passing in 2023;she took great pride in their three children, Edward, Mark, andStephanie, and her treasured family eventually grew to include agranddaughter, Kayla; a woman of deep faith, she was a longtimeparishioner of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church; andWHEREAS, Amparo Ortiz lived a life that was rich in personaland professional achievements, and she leaves behind a legacy thatwill continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be itRESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th TexasLegislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memoryof Amparo Hurtado Ortiz and extend heartfelt sympathy to all whomourn her passing; and, be it furtherRESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution beprepared for her family and that when the Texas House ofRepresentatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of AmparoOrtiz.Martinez Fischer______________________________Speaker of the HouseI certify that H.R.
