Martinez of Cotulla, who passed away onMay 27, 2025, at the age of 91; andWHEREAS, The daughter of Manuel Briones and NievesGuerrero, this beloved woman was born in Linares, Nuevo León,Mexico, on August 27, 1933; she grew up with the companionship offive younger siblings, Josefina, Ezequiel, Alejandro, Antonio,and Cristobal, and she began working at the age of 15; andWHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez was employed for many years as amigrant farm worker, and she traveled to Michigan, Ohio,Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida to help supporther family; a longtime, civically engaged resident of Cotulla,she helped with voter registration during her tenure with theRaza Unida Party and she served as president of the Nueva Vidaorganization; additionally, she worked with Iglesia PrimeraBautista Fellowship church for more than 50 years, and she was acook for the La Salle County Elderly Nutrition Center; andWHEREAS, For a decade and a half, Mrs. Martinez was blessedwith the love and support of her first husband, Filiberto Martinez;following his death in 1970, she was fortunate enough to find loveagain, and she and her second husband, Ernesto Consuegra, shared arewarding marriage until his passing in 1999; Mrs. Martinez was thedevoted mother of 7 children, Jose, Melba, Domingo, Maria, Josefa,Ernesto, and Josefina Martinez, who preceded her in death, and withthe passage of time, she welcomed 27 grandchildren, 63great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren into herfamily; her interests included gardening and raising chickens; andWHEREAS, Admired for her passion and generosity, GuadalupeMartinez lived a caring and purposeful life, and she leavesbehind a record of service that her loved ones can remember withpride; now, therefore, be itRESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89thLegislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memoryof Guadalupe B. Martinez and extend heartfelt condolences to themembers of her family: to her children, Jose Martinez and hiswife, Susan Carlson, Melba Martinez, Domingo Martinez, Maria deJesus Martinez, Josefa Consuegra, and Ernesto Consuegra and hiswife, Jennifer; to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, andgreat-great-grandchildren; to her brother, Cristobal Briones;and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it furtherRESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution beprepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjournsthis day, it do so in memory of Guadalupe Martinez.Zaffirini________________________________President of the SenateI hereby certify that theabove Resolution was adopted bythe Senate on September 4, 2025,by a rising vote.________________________________Secretary of the Senate________________________________Member, Texas Senate
