SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 87
In Memory
of
Shelly Cantú-Valdez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Shelly Cantú-Valdez, who died
January 12, 2025, at the age of 52; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong Texan, Shelly Cantú was born in Freer
on November 18, 1972, to Arnoldo Cantú and Diana Garza; she
earned her diploma from Freer High School in 1991, and she
pursued higher education at Bee County College and completed a
paralegal degree from Texas A&M International University in
2004; and
WHEREAS, Shelly enjoyed a successful career in public
service that included working as an analyst for Immigration and
Customs Enforcement, and she was passionate about her role as a
paralegal and contributed her expertise and experience as an
esteemed staff member with DeSouza Injury Lawyers; and
WHEREAS, Compassionate and driven by a desire to improve
the lives of vulnerable children, Shelly served on the board of
Court Appointed Special Advocates in Duval County, and she was
committed to helping others and always willing to assist fellow
citizens in need; and
WHEREAS, Shelly shared five rewarding years of marriage
with her devoted husband, Mariano Valdez III, and she was a
loving mother to her four children, Enrique, Alyssa, Daniella,
and Kairee; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity and immeasurable kindness,
Shelly was a beloved member of her community, and she leaves
behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Shelly Cantú-Valdez; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Shelly Cantú-Valdez.
