Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of Governor for terms totalling more than 8 years. Provides that service prior to the date of the adoption of the amendment shall be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Provides that any person holding the office of Governor at the time of the adoption of the proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution who meets the specified term limitation shall be allowed to complete his or her term of office. Effective upon being declared adopted.LRB104 14602 SPS 27744 eHC0020 LRB104 14602 SPS 27744 e1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE4 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption8 of this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article9 IV, amend Section 2 of Article V, and amend Section 3 of10 Article VIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows:11 ARTICLE V12 THE EXECUTIVE13 (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2)14 SECTION 2. TERMS15 (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall16 hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of17 January after their election and, except in the case of the18 Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified.19 They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every20 four years thereafter.21 (b) A person may not be elected to the office of Governor22 for terms totalling more than 8 years. Service prior to the23 date of the adoption of this amendment to the IllinoisHC0020 - 2 - LRB104 14602 SPS 27744 e1 Constitution shall be considered in the calculation of a2 person's service.
