A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing January as
National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
Whereas, Human trafficking is a grave violation of human
rights affecting millions of people worldwide, including
thousands within the United States who are subjected to
exploitation for labor, services, or the commercial sex trade;
Whereas, Human traffickers target the most vulnerable
members of society, using force, fraud, or coercion to exploit
individuals and deny them freedom, dignity, and safety;
Whereas, Human trafficking is often hidden in plain sight,
making identification difficult and delaying access to critical
services, protection, and support for survivors;
Whereas, January is recognized as National Human
Trafficking Prevention Month, observed annually since 2010 by
the President of the United States to raise awareness and
prevent human trafficking, with related efforts led domestically
and abroad by the United States Department of State;
Whereas, Federal agencies, survivor advocates, community
organizations, and private citizens work each January to
highlight the resilience of survivors and the importance of
prevention efforts at home and abroad;
Whereas, Preventing human trafficking requires
community-based solutions, including public education,
trauma-informed training, safe housing, coordinated services,
and strong partnerships among law enforcement, service

providers, schools, faith communities, and residents; and
Whereas, Raising awareness empowers individuals to
recognize signs of trafficking, support survivors, and contribute
to a statewide culture of vigilance, safety, and prevention:
Therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
the Senate concurring:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in
Indiana, and it encourages all residents to increase awareness,
support prevention efforts, and stand with survivors of human
trafficking.
SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly affirms the
importance of community engagement, education, and
coordinated action to prevent exploitation and ensure that every
community is prepared to recognize, prevent, and respond to
human trafficking.
SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives and the Secretary of the Senate are directed to
transmit copies of this resolution to appropriate agencies,
organizations, and advocacy groups involved in human
trafficking prevention and survivor support.
