RESOLUTION No. 5
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
Department of Transportation to rename the eastbound bridge
on U.S. Highway 50 over Tanners Creek in Lawrenceburg the
"Lary D. Fogle Memorial Bridge" and the westbound flyover
bridge on U.S. Highway 50 in Lawrenceburg the "Thomas G.
Denning Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, Lary D. Fogle and Thomas G. Denning , both
from Lawrenceburg, Indiana, honorably served the United
States during the Vietnam War, giving their lives in defense of
their country;
Whereas, Both men were graduates of the Lawrenceburg
Consolidated High School Class of 1965 and entered military
service with a deep sense of duty and commitment to their
nation;
Whereas, Lary Fogle, an airborne paratrooper in the
United States Army, was the first resident of Dearborn County
to lose his life in the Vietnam War, killed in action at the young
age of 18 years and four days;
Whereas, Private Fogle was awarded the Bronze Star and
the Purple Heart for his service, and his name is memorialized
on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., on
Panel 4E, Line 30;
Whereas, Thomas Denning proudly served in the United
States Marine Corps with the 3rd Marines at Quang Tri,
fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a Marine;

Whereas, Lance Corporal Denning received two Purple
Hearts for his bravery and was killed in action while leading an
assault. His name is honored on the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial, Panel 16E, Line 1; and
Whereas, Both men are remembered by their families,
classmates, and community for their courage, character, and
devotion to service. Their sacrifices continue to inspire the
people of Lawrenceburg and Dearborn County: Therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
the Senate concurring:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the eastbound
bridges on U.S. Highway 50 over Tanners Creek in
Lawrenceburg the "Lary D. Fogle Memorial Bridge" and the
westbound flyover bridge on U.S. Highway 50 in Lawrenceburg
the "Thomas G. Denning Memorial Bridge”.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
