              HOUSE CONCURRENT
               RESOLUTION No. 4
1    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to rename the stretch of State
3 Road 45 that is between College Avenue and Fee Lane in
4 Bloomington the "Bob Knight Memorial Way".
5   Whereas, Robert Montgomery “Bob” Knight served as head
6 coach for the Indiana University men’s basketball team from
7 1971 to 2000;
8   Whereas, Coach Knight guided the Hoosiers to three national
9 championships, including the 1975-76 undefeated season, the
10 last perfect season in men’s college basketball;
11   Whereas, Indiana University also earned 11 Big Ten
12 Championships under Coach Knight’s leadership, solidifying
13 the program as a national standard-bearer for decades;
14   Whereas, Coach Knight recorded 902 wins in NCAA Division
15 I men’s basketball, ranking among the winningest coaches in
16 the history of the sport;
17  Whereas, Coach Knight also served as head coach of the
18 1984 United States Olympic Men’s Basketball Team, which
19 won the gold medal in Los Angeles;
20   Whereas, Coach Knight’s emphasis on preparation,
21 discipline, and academic excellence shaped generations of
22 players, many of whom went on to careers as leaders within
23 and beyond the sport of basketball;
24   Whereas, Coach Knight, a voracious reader and student of
25 history who considered himself a teacher first, used both his
26 influence and resources to support Indiana University’s library
27 system, benefitting virtually every student;

1   Whereas, Coach Knight supported the university’s library
2 system by first matching challenge grants from the National
3 Endowment for the Humanities and later by establishing the
4 Bob Knight Library Endowment Fund, which to date has raised
5 millions of dollars.
6   Whereas, Known for his fierce competitive spirit and
7 profound respect for the game’s traditions, Coach Knight
8 embodied the storied culture of Indiana basketball and helped
9 shape its identity;
10   Whereas, Coach Knight was inducted into the Naismith
11 Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the College Basketball Hall
12 of Fame, and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, reflecting
13 his enduring impact on the sport; and
14   Whereas, Hoosiers across the state and nation continue to
15 honor and celebrate Coach Knight’s lasting legacy,
16 remembering him as one of the most iconic and influential
17 coaches in American athletics: Therefore,
18Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
19of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
20the Senate concurring:
21  SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
22 Department of Transportation to rename the stretch of State
23 Road 45 that is between College Avene and Fee Lane in
24 Bloomington the "Bob Knight Memorial Way".
25  SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
26 Representatives shall transmit of copies of this resolution to the
27 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.

which was referred House Concurrent Resolution 4, has had the same
