5 ADVOCACY AND COMMITMENT TO INCREASING AWARENESS OF TYPE 1
6 DIABETES.

8WHEREAS, in a desire to acknowledge and commend young
9 Alabamians who have overcome great adversity to achieve
10 exceptional accomplishments, it is with great pride and
11 pleasure that Miss Meg Gentry of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is
12 recognized for her efforts to spread awareness in the
13 community about Type 1 Diabetes; and
14WHEREAS, Meg Gentry is the nine-year-old daughter of
15 Brant and Brittany Gentry and currently a fourth-grade
16 student at Verner Elementary School in Tuscaloosa; and
17WHEREAS, in January 2022, Meg was diagnosed with Type
18 1 Diabetes (T1D), a lifelong autoimmune disease requiring
19 daily insulin therapy and careful blood sugar management;
20 and
21WHEREAS, despite this diagnosis, Meg has shown
22 remarkable determination and positivity, using her
23 experience to educate others and promote early awareness and
24 prevention of serious complications; and
25WHEREAS, in July 2025, Meg was selected as a
26 Breakthrough T1D Children's Congress Ambassador,
27 representing Alabama in Washington, D.C., where she met with
28 Members of Congress to advocate for continued funding of the

29 Special Diabetes Program for research; and
30WHEREAS, in October 2025, Meg Gentry emailed Mayor
31 Walt Maddox of Tuscaloosa advocating for the city's lights
32 to be turned blue in recognition of World Diabetes Day; her
33 wish was granted, and the city illuminated local landmarks
34 in blue, the global color for diabetes awareness, on
35 November 14, 2025; Meg was subsequently recognized by the
36 Mayor and the local Breakthrough T1D chapter for her efforts
37 to raise community awareness; and
38WHEREAS, Meg also advocates for Type 1 Diabetes
39 awareness and research each November by organizing "Put a
40 Cap on Diabetes Day" at her school and by participating in
41 fundraising walks through Breakthrough T1D; and
42WHEREAS, Meg is supported by her family and friends
43 in her advocacy efforts, and her fundraising team, known as
44 "Meg's Mania," raises funds and awareness for the Type 1
45 Diabetes community and critical research initiatives; and
46WHEREAS, although Type 1 Diabetes presents
47 minute-by-minute challenges for Meg and her parents, she
48 continues to thrive and serves as an inspiring example of
49 living fully and courageously despite adversity; and
50WHEREAS, indeed, Meg Gentry is deserving of the
51 highest commendation for her dedication to raising awareness
52 and funds for Type 1 Diabetes research, and her
53 accomplishments bring great credit to herself, her family,
54 her community, and the State of Alabama; now therefore,
55BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
56 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Miss Meg Gentry is hereby most

57 highly commended and congratulated for her outstanding
58 advocacy and dedication to increasing awareness of Type 1
59 Diabetes, and this resolution is presented to her as a
60 lasting tribute to her exemplary character and achievements.
