Hornets girls’ volleyball team on winning the school’s fifth consecutive divisional
championship.

Whereas, for the prior four seasons, the Essex High School girls’ volleyball team
concluded the season as the State titleholder, and the 2025 squad, featuring a starting
lineup of five seniors and one sophomore, possessed the talent to extend this
championship streak, and
Whereas, the top-seeded and undefeated Hornets revisited their 2024 final contest as,
once again, the second-ranked BFA–St. Albans Comets were their worthy opponents in a
game played in Colchester at St. Michael’s College, and
Whereas, the opening set was an exciting and closely played affair, necessitating
exceeding the typical 25-point finish mark before the Hornets secured a 26–24 victory,
while Essex’s overwhelming mastery on the court earned the team a 25–11 second-set
win, and although the Comets recovered their offensive stamina in the third set, the
Hornets still emerged on top 25–21, for an overall 3–0 game victory, their fifth
consecutive undefeated season and a championship title, and the school’s 86th
consecutive win, and
Whereas, the 2025 Hornets (17–0), who celebrated another triumphant season, were
Riley Austin, Anna Hotaling, Rheya Gregory, Reese Gregory, Lucy Walker-Borch,
Hannah Knickerbocker, Eleanor Hutton, Riley Hammond, Emma Orlow, Abigail
Desilets, Mia Eklof, and Lia Wolinsky, and
Whereas, Head Coach Jennifer Liguori and assistant coaches Hope Lagemann and
Phil Reynolds provided insightful guidance all season, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2025 Essex High School Hornets girls’
volleyball team on winning the school’s fifth consecutive divisional championship, and
be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Essex High School.
