A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION honoring the Yankton School District on its 150th
anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Yankton School District has provided public education for one hundred and
fifty years, longer than any other accredited public school district in the state; and
WHEREAS, Yankton High School continues to outperform state average scores in English
language arts, mathematics, science, coursework readiness, assessment readiness, college
and career readiness, on-time graduation, and high school completion; and
WHEREAS, in August 2025, the Yankton School District opened the Trailhead Learning
Center, the first school in the state specifically designed to meet the needs of the district’s
youngest learners in preschool, junior kindergarten, and kindergarten, demonstrating a
strong commitment to early childhood education; and
WHEREAS, the Yankton School District is dedicated to developing future teachers through
its partnership with Mount Marty University by offering a 4 + 1 program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the One Hundred First Legislature of the
State of South Dakota, that the Legislature recognizes and honors the Yankton School District
on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and celebrates its longstanding commitment to
excellence, innovation, and service to its students and the community.
