No. R-231. House concurrent resolution congratulating the Thetford Academy
Panthers boys’ indoor track and field team on winning a second consecutive Division
II championship.

Offered by Representatives Holcombe of Norwich and Masland of Thetford
Whereas, although Thetford Academy is primarily a Division III varsity sports school,
for indoor track and field it is a Division II competitor against larger secondary
institutions, and
Whereas, the boys’ indoor track and field team treats this size disparity as a challenge
and not a deterrence to successful competition, as the Panthers demonstrated when they
clinched the 2025 Division II crown, and
Whereas, in 2026, the Panthers again demonstrated their track and field skills, placing
first in the 55-meter dash (6.60 seconds), the 300-meter run (36.96 seconds), the high
jump (5 feet, 10.75 inches), the long jump (21 feet, 11.75 inches), and the weight throw
(40 feet, nine inches), as well as in their winning time of 3 minutes, 55 seconds in the
first-round race of the 4x400 relay, to repeat as Division II champions, narrowly
outscoring rival U-32 115–109, and
Whereas, Panthers Zac Adams, Wendell Durham, Oliver Emery, Oliver Goodrich,
Owen Goodrich, Tanner Hardy, Peter Horan, Daniel Mann, Kit Payson, Sebastian
Perdrizet, Stone Riegler, Connor Sloop, Hayden Southworth, Emmett Terry, and David
Thaxton, and
Whereas, Head Coach Charlie Buttrey and assistant coaches Jorl Breakstone, Charlize
Brown, Cole Chapman, and Vanessa Riegler were proud of these dedicated athletes, and
Whereas, all the Vermont indoor varsity track and field athletes and coaches are
hoping the sport will continue, as the availability of a location for the State championship
meet is limited and now compels the season to be truncated with an early January
conclusion, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Thetford Academy Panthers boys’
indoor track and field team on winning a second consecutive Division II championship,
and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Thetford Academy.
