Applies to the gubernatorial election in 2030 and thereafter.LRB104 20702 JDS 34202 eHC0024 LRB104 20702 JDS 34202 e1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE4 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption8 of this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois9 Constitution by changing Section 2 of Article 5 as follows:10 ARTICLE V11 THE EXECUTIVE12 (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2)13 SECTION 2. TERMS14 (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall15 hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of16 January after their election and, except in the case of the17 Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified.18 They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every19 four years thereafter.20 (b) A person may not serve more than two terms of office as21 Governor. A person who has served two terms as Governor may not22 serve another term of office in that office.23 A person is considered to serve a term of office for theHC0024 - 2 - LRB104 20702 JDS 34202 e1 purpose of this subsection if the person is elected or2 appointed to serve any portion of the term.3 (Source: Illinois Constitution.)4 SCHEDULE5 This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being6 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois7 Constitutional Amendment Act and applies to the gubernatorial8 election in 2030 and thereafter.
