HOUSE   RESOLUTION   NO.   2026-4683, by Representatives Taylor, Hall, Eslick,
 Pollet, Nance, Connors, Berry, Street, Wylie, Zahn, Dufault, Salahuddin, Engell,
 and Barkis
1     WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Girl Scouts of
2 Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, and Girl Scouts of Oregon and
3 Southwest Washington councils are proud to provide a safe learning
4 environment for scouts of all backgrounds through the end of high
5 school; and
6     WHEREAS, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts 113 years
7 ago in Savannah, Georgia. Originally named Girl Guides, the
8 organization focused on leadership, skill building, and community
9 service. The group empowered young women during a time when women did
10 not have voting rights in the United States; and
11     WHEREAS, Roughly half of adult women in the United States were a
12 Girl Scout at some point of their lives, accounting for more than 50
13 million youth members nationwide; and
14     WHEREAS, Girl Scouts play an indispensable role in engaging girls
15 in after-school and out-of-school programs and experiences, which
16 expand their world and allow them to utilize their inner community
17 builder, innovator, change maker, and leader; and
18     WHEREAS, Girl Scouts has furthered its mission to "build girls of
19 courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better
20 place"; and
21     WHEREAS, Girl Scouts is tailored toward building community and
22 relationships that last a lifetime, and developing skills that permit
23 success in adulthood in any field; and

1     WHEREAS, Girl Scouts provide civics education and service
2 opportunities to girls of all grade levels that deepens their
3 understanding of democracy and government, and motivates them to take
4 part in their community;
5     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
6 recognize the Girl Scouts for its services to the youth of the state
7 and the development of the next generation of leaders.
