House Resolution
A resolution designating June 24, 2026, as "Florida
Day of Women in Diplomacy."
WHEREAS, June 24 is internationally recognized as the
International Day of Women in Diplomacy, established by the
United Nations to acknowledge the critical role women play in
diplomacy, peacebuilding, and international relations, and
WHEREAS, women remain significantly underrepresented in
diplomatic leadership roles, comprising only 5 percent of chief
mediators globally, despite evidence that their participation is
essential to effective diplomacy, and
WHEREAS, research demonstrates that peace agreements
involving women have a 35 percent greater chance of lasting at
least 15 years, underscoring the vital importance of women's
voices in diplomatic negotiations and conflict resolution, and
WHEREAS, Florida has a proud legacy of women leaders in
diplomacy, including Ruth Bryan Owen, who represented Florida's
4th congressional district from 1929 to 1933 and became the
first woman appointed as a United States diplomat, earning her
induction into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame, and
WHEREAS, recognizing women's contributions to diplomacy
encourages future generations of women to pursue careers in
international relations, foreign service, and peacebuilding,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
Florida:
That June 24, 2026, is designated as "Florida Day of Women
in Diplomacy," honoring the achievements of Florida women who
have served and continue to serve in diplomatic roles and
inspiring the continued advancement of Florida women's
participation and leadership in diplomacy and international
relations.
