2A resolution designating June 2026 as "Caribbean
3Heritage Month" in Florida.

5WHEREAS, from a region that conjures images of a scenic
6 paradise, Caribbean Americans are as vibrant as the islands from
7 which they come, possessing a wealth of talent and history that
8 reverberates throughout this great state and nation, and
9WHEREAS, as educators, authors, community leaders,
10    activists, athletes, artists, musicians, and politicians,
11    Caribbean Americans have made their mark in every facet of our
12    society and have contributed to the betterment and diversity of
13    our state and nation, and
14WHEREAS, counted among many famous sons and daughters of
15    the Caribbean are civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois; United
16    States Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton; United
17    States Secretary of State Colin Powell; United States
18    Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm; Oscar-nominated actress Cicely
19    Tyson; Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier who was born in Miami;
20    author, poet, and civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson;
21    musician, actor, and social activist Harry Belafonte; Haitian
22    Revolution General Henri Christophe; actor and author Louise
23    Bennett-Coverley; writer and nationalist leader José Martí;
24    professor of literature Mayra Santos-Febres; and numerous others
25    who have displayed great strength and resiliency while serving

26    as pioneers among the people of the Caribbean, and
27WHEREAS, not only has the United States thrived as a
28    country of immigrants, but Florida has flourished from the many
29    Caribbean immigrants and their descendants who have called this
30    state home, united by common values and the promise of a better
31    tomorrow, NOW, THEREFORE,

33    Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34    Florida:

36That June 2026 is designated as "Caribbean Heritage Month"
37    in Florida and all communities and individuals throughout this
38    state can celebrate their cultural and historical bonds.
